How do I edit text and images in the Website Builder?

  • Website Builder, content, search
  • 0

Double-click any text on your page to type over it, then click outside the box or press Enter to finish. To change a picture, double-click the image and upload a new one from the panel that opens on the left. Save when you are done; changes only go live when you publish.

How to edit text

  1. Open your site: Client Area > your service > cPanel > the Website Builder button, then edit your domain.
  2. Double-click the text you want to change. It gets a colored background, which means you are editing it.
  3. Type your new text.
  4. Use the small toolbar above the text to make words bold or italic, add a link, change the color, or make a list.
  5. Press Enter or click the checkmark to finish.
  6. Save with the disk icon or Ctrl + S.

Tips for text that people actually read

  • Lead with what you do and where: "Licensed electrician serving Sisters and Bend."
  • Keep paragraphs to two or three sentences.
  • Use the words your customers use. "Furnace repair" beats "thermal comfort solutions."
  • Remove every bit of sample text. Search engines and visitors both notice placeholder words.

Keep your phone number and address the same everywhere

The Website Builder can store your contact details in one place and drop them into the page. Look for Data under the More menu in the top bar. Fill in your phone number, email and business name there. When you edit a text box, the toolbar has a person icon that inserts one of those saved details. If your number ever changes, you update it once in Data and it changes across the whole site.

How to replace an image

  1. Double-click the image you want to change. A panel opens on the left.
  2. Upload a new picture from your computer, drag one in, or pick one you already uploaded.
  3. If the builder asks whether to change a logo on every page or just this one, choose every page for a logo.
  4. To crop, click the crop icon in the toolbar above the image. You can pick a shape (for example square), rotate, or zoom.
  5. Save.

Add a short description (alt text) to each image

Alt text describes a picture for people using screen readers, and it helps search engines understand the image.

  1. Click the image.
  2. In the left panel, scroll down to the Text section.
  3. Click Alternative Text and type a short description, such as "New metal roof on a house in Redmond, Oregon."
  4. Save.

If an image is only decoration (a background texture, for example), you can leave the alt text empty.

How to change a background image

Many sections, like the big banner at the top of the home page, use a background image instead of a regular picture. Click the section's outer container (use the breadcrumb trail at the bottom of the screen to select it), then look for the Background settings and choose Image. If your text becomes hard to read, add a color overlay to darken the photo.

Photo tips

  • Use your own photos of real jobs, your team, and your vehicles. They build more trust than stock photos.
  • Take photos in landscape (sideways) for banners.
  • Large files from a phone are fine to start with, but if pages feel slow, resize them to about 2000 pixels wide before uploading.

Made a mistake?

Press Ctrl + Z to undo. If you need to go further back, the builder keeps saved versions you can restore (look for Backups in the main menu at the top left). Your hosting account is also backed up offsite three times a week (Monday, Tuesday and Friday) on every plan. If you get stuck, open a support ticket, which is the best way to reach us. We reply the same day, 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific, 7 days a week.
